Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps us examine our thoughts, actions and emotions in specific moments in our lives. It then provides well-defined and simple ways of changing thoughts and behaviors, with the ultimate goal of changing how we feel - for the better.

What is TEAM-CBT?

TEAM stands for Testing, Empathy, Agenda-Setting, and Methods. It’s a major development of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) created by Dr. David Burns, a psychiatrist and author of best-selling books such as Feeling Good Together: The Secret to Making Troubled Relationships Work, When Panic Attacks, and Feeling Great: The Revolutionary New Treatment for Depression and Anxiety.

Here’s what each component of TEAM-CBT entails:

Testing (T): At the beginning and end of every session, I will ask you to complete brief questionnaires. These help us track your progress, identify stuck points, provide feedback, and make changes that accelerate your recovery.

Empathy (E): TEAM-CBT therapists train in multiple empathy skills to establish a warm therapeutic alliance with their clients. The empathetic connection is a necessary ingredient for successful therapy, enhancing the effectiveness of methods once established.

Agenda-Setting (A): During Agenda-Setting, we clarify your goals, create a collaborative agenda and help you remove obstacles to achieve the change you desire.

Methods (M): TEAM-CBT therapists employ over 100 powerful cognitive, behavioral, and interpersonal methods to address various issues, including depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, stress, relationship concerns and more.

TEAM-CBT is not a new “school” but rather a framework for conducting measurement-based therapy. It emphasizes collaboration, empathy, and evidence-based techniques to help individuals improve their mental health and well-being.
